AEDM Day 12: Kit

November 12, 2011

Tonight I’m putting together something new for my shop–an art journal kit. I figure it can be for a new art journaler or used as a travel kit. The journal included is an upcycled board book. And I’m gathering all kinds of goodies to go with it. A set of craft paints, a container of gesso, an envelope full of papers and collage items, a stamp pad and a small alphabet stamp set, a large stencil, a travel watercolor set… It’s gonna be pretty sweet. I’ll be sure to post a link to the finished product tomorrow.

AEDM Day 11: Brainstorm!

November 11, 2011

This morning I didn’t have much time before work, so I just grabbed a notebook and did a bit of brainstorming. A scribbly notebook isn’t much to look at, though. So how about a photo of the kittens that have been hanging out in my yard?

Sooooo cute! Happy 11.11.11 day!

AEDM Day 10: Shrine

November 10, 2011

I woke up this morning and was playing around on my iPad when I came across a shrine someone had made inside a matchbox. I have always wanted to make a shrine, so I decided that today was the day.

Actually, I think what I made is technically a triptych gothic arch card. It’s the thing on the right.

Inside is a shrine to Courtney Love. A real rock goddess. I used photos from the Internet and photocopies of pages from her book Dirty Blonde, which is essentially an art journal. It’s hard to photograph the entire inside of the shrine, so I’ll be sure to show it off in my next journal flip video. Okay, now I’m going to snuggle on the couch and watch Howl’s Moving Castle. I finished the book last night and it was amazing!

AEDM Day 9: The Shoes

November 9, 2011

I spent the morning putting the finishing touches on my shoes. Nice! The only problem is that when I pulled the masking tape off the heel and a big chunk of glitter came off with it. So, they are probably not the sturdiest shoes in the world. Dang!

AEDM Day 8: More Art Journal

November 8, 2011

More art journaling before work. I decided to start another grid in my journal. It is a lot different than the painting I’m working on. I like the variety.

AEDM Day 7: Sparkly

November 7, 2011

I love Stumble Upon. I can push that button for hours. It is both the cure and the cause for insomnia for me. Last night I was Stumbling and I found a tutorial on how to make plain flats all glittery. So, I decided to make that my project for today. I know it’s not technically art, but it’s at least creative!

Supplies: Mod Podge type glue (I used Collage Pauge), glitter, masking tape, a foam brush, and a pair of flats (any color).

Here are the shoes I used. Nine dollars at Wal-Mart. I wear flats a lot, but I always make sure to find interesting looking ones. These are too plain for me, but they won’t be when I’m done.

I used the tape to mask the heels and to secure the bow out of the way.

The tutorial said to mix the glitter and glue together then paint it on, layer after layer. I tried that, but it seemed too slow. So, for the second coat, I spread a thick layer of glue on, then sprinkled the glitter on, then added another layer of glue.

The shoes will look all funky, but the glue dries clear. Mine are still drying, so I guess the big unveil will have to be tomorrow. I can’t wait!

Holiday 2011 Etsy Restock

November 7, 2011

Today I’ve been restocking my Etsy Shop for the holidays.

New journals:

And, for the first time, paintings!

I’m finding the headphones girl especially hard to part with, but hopefully all these items will find new homes this year!
